Recycling Commitment

Woodberry is fully committed to being as sustainable as possible.

We scrutinise our whole process to ensure we are recycling as much as possible, sourcing product from sustainable materials and controlling the ethics of our supply chain. We are always looking at ways we can do more.

Sustainable and Recyclable Product Materials

  • FSC Certified Wooden tables and chairs
  • Recycled Plastic Picnic Benches and Dining Furniture

All our wooden products are FSC certified meaning they are sourced from sustainable forests, for every tree cut down another is planted. The recycled plastic products are made from plastic wrapping, plastic bottles and bubble wrap, all these products are fully recycled and recyclable at the end of their use.

Recycling Waste Products

As part of our commitment to sustainability, and working towards being carbon neutral, we recycle as much of our waste generated as possible.

The main waste generated at Woodberry is wood waste, cardboard waste and plastic wrapping waste.

We work with recycling partners to ensure this is made useful for another purpose.

We like to see with our own eyes this process happening and our directors visit the waste recycling plants to understand what happens and where our waste goes to.

Woodberry Recycling

At Woodberry the main waste products generated are; wood waste, cardboard, plastic wrapping and household waste from our office.

To be transparent in our recycling commitment, we work with the below partners to sort and recycle this waste.

  • Wood and cardboard waste goes to Tom White Waste
  • Plastic wrapping and our ‘kitchen’ waste goes to Fortress

We do also donate seconds and surplus end of line products to schools and charities based on requests.

In addition we offer a removal service to clients of old woodberry furniture when we deliver new products. This old furniture is then recycled with our wood waste.

Working with Tom White Waste

Woodberry has been working with Tom White Waste for 7 years.

This company was chosen due to its location, that it doesn’t export, but also its work ethics and scrutiny of the waste recycling process.

The team are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, happy to help and easy to work with. There is a support structure in place for customer care and at Woodberry we appreciate the scrutiny of the waste management that Tom White Waste team enforce.

It has enabled us to instil guidelines at our site with employees and delivery drivers. We appreciate that by ensuring a rigorous process of waste selection and management it helps the impact we have on the environment and to minimise the energy put into recycling.

A Tour of the Waste Plant

The waste from Woodberry is taken to a Dry Waste Plant in Coventry.

One of our directors and the marketing manager recently took a tour to understand the recycling process at the plant and where the Woodberry waste goes to.

Dry waste plant visit

The dry waste plant takes any commercial waste from skips and waste trucks but not household waste recycling, hazardous or confidential waste.
The main elements being hand sorted and recycled were;

• Hardcore – cement, rocks – this is ground down into hardcore to be reused in the building industry
• Metal waste – mattress springs/building site metal – sold for scrap metal and recycled
• Cardboard – crushed, baled and sent to paper mills to be pulped and recycled
• Plastics – HDE – wrapping and hard plastics – crushed into bales and sent for recycling
• Wood – chipped and used for fuel
• Plasterboard – is separated and stored separately
• Mattresses – shredded for metal springs and sorted for the textile recycling

Jim Barr – Director at Woodberry said; ‘We’d like to thank the Tom White Waste team for the informative and eye-opening tour of their facility. At Woodberry we are committed to recycling and managing our waste as sustainably as possible, it was useful to see and understand the whole process our waste goes through to be recycled.’
