The summer holidays are just around the corner, most families have booked in their getaways and you’ll likely be preparing to give them an unforgettable experience.

While most of your customers have likely already planned and prepared for their holidays there are still a few things you can consider to make the most out of the summer trade and make a great impression on your customers that brings them back year after year.

Ensure that there is comfortable seating for your different types of customers

Many people use the summer holidays to spend quality time with their families. This might mean that you have a lot of intergenerational groups (grandparents to young children).

This is something you should think about when arranging or purchasing new furniture.

We typically recommend seats with arms for older clientele as it allows them to easily lower themselves onto the seat and push themselves back up again. Alternatively, Pacific range table and armchairs are a good option for this. The arms are great for supporting older clientele and you could add seating pads for an extra element of comfort.

Seating pads and cushions are also a good idea for venues with metal seating and they get hot in the sun.

If you are providing picnic tables around your site you may want to consider ones with backs on their benches. This offers more security to younger children that might otherwise slip and fall off.

Provide Lots of Shade

With the sunny weather and children running around having shady spots to stop for a cold drink or to top up on sun cream is important.

Parasols are an easy way to offer shade over picnic and dining tables. Parasols are easy to move and adjust if necessary and they are cost effective.

You could also have a gazebo or pergola installed to create a more permanent sheltered area for visitors.

Consider How You're Providing Refreshments

Keeping your customers cool and refreshed will allow them to make the most out of your other facilities.  You could consider using an ice cream cart or refreshment stand for ice creams and cold drinks. Refreshment trolleys can help to reduce the length of queues and keep wait times short.

Additionally, having refreshments such as tea, cold drinks and ice cream close to entertainment hotspots (such as the pool) will mean parents can still keep an eye on their children and belongings while getting the refreshments.

Another thing you may want to consider is the placement of your litter bins.

Having litter bins too close to outdoor seating areas may result in your customers being harassed by flies and wasps. Having them a short distance away will prevent this while still prompting your customers to help in keeping your space tidy.

You should also ensure that litter bins are emptied frequently so they don’t attract bugs and act as an eyesore. You could also consider providing clearly marked recycling bins. This is becoming a more highly valued feature as people are becoming more environmentally conscious.

Little Extras Make a Big Difference

To help give your customers a memorable time you may want to consider what type of entertainment your venue provides. Do you have a swimming pool or live shows for all of the family. Perhaps you could invest in play equipment or outdoor games if you have space for it. Or keep a couple of decks of cards on hand for customers that may want to use them.

If your venue has a pool you might consider having sun cream dispensers dotted around so parents can keep their children topped up easily throughout the day and won’t have to be worried about sun burn if they do forget their sun cream.

It’s important to make sure any facilities like toilets, kitchenettes with a baby’s bottle warmer in or washing machines are clearly signed. This will help new customers easily navigate your space and fully understand everything your venue has to offer.

You may also consider welcoming furry friends with a cool bowl of water and a treat.
