We would expect teak and Robinia to last longer than 10 years outdoors. Acacia is also an excellent hardwood for outdoor use, but wouldn’t last quite as long as teak.

Take 1 gallon of water, a quarter of a cup of bleach and two thirds of a cup of light laundry detergent and mix together. With a stiff hand brush use the liquid mixture to clean and remove mildew and staining from the furniture. Use the brush with smooth strokes along the direction of the grain, before rinsing again with the hose and leaving the furniture to dry out in the sun.

  • How do I maintain and care for hardwood outdoor furniture?

On a sunny day, rinse your furniture with a garden hose to release debris and dirt.

  • What happens if sofa cushions get wet?

Take them into a warm, dry place to dry out completely.  If you unzip the cushion cover and take out the foam filling, this will help both the cover and filling to dry out more quickly.

  • Is it OK to leave sofas outside?

Woodberry’s Sofa frames can be left outside all year round as they are weatherproof.  Cushions are water resistant so will withstand a light shower and the rain droplets will run off, however cushions should be taken inside or undercover when it’s raining more heavily.

  • Which planters are the easiest to maintain?

Fibreglass and recycled plastic planters do not require retreatment like many timber planters do.  As regards planting, outdoor artificial plants typically require less maintenance than real plants.

  • How do you keep a timber planter from rotting?

Make sure the planter box has a liner to minimise contact of moisture with the timber and have drainage holes in the bottom of the liner and planter to ensure the liner does not act like a bucket and retain too much water.

  • How often should I re-treat the furniture?

With hygiene and more frequent cleansing since covid, we recommend that you treat wooden table tops every 6 months. For seats and legs these can be treated once a year.

For information on how to treat different types of outdoor furniture read our care and maintenance guides.

    https://www.woodberry.co.uk/category/maintenance/

  • I’m getting mug rings on my table – what should I do?

You have 2 options; 1. provide table mats and coasters on the table tops. 2. Lightly sand the table top to remove the mug rings, clean and allow to dry. Treat the table top if you want to. Please refer to our care and maintenance guides for more information. https://www.woodberry.co.uk/category/maintenance/

  • Do I need to treat teak?

We say no. You do not need to treat teak. It weathers to an elegant silver grey and does not require wood protection treatment. If, however, you want the teak to remain a golden brown then you will need to lightly sand, clean, allow to dry and then treat your teak outdoor furniture.

  • Does it come pre-treated?

All of the wooden outdoor furniture and gazebos have been pre-treated with wood protection. Refer to the care and maintenance guides for how to re-treat these products to ensure longevity and comply with the guarantees.

  • Will I need to treat the furniture?

Soft wood furniture will need treating annually. For furniture that is used very frequently, and tables tops cleaned often, we recommended treating every 6 months.

Hardwood furniture like teak does not need treating, it will weather to a silver grey colour.

  • Do you offer finance?

Yes. Finance is available through Systems Finance Ltd.

  • Can you deliver and assemble it for me?

Absolutely, we want to help our customers have furniture and shelters ready to serve without any business disruption. Please talk to our team about on-site installation charges.

  • Can you make bespoke gazebos to my specifications?

Our wooden gazebos and clear roof pergolas can be made to bespoke lengths but the widths are fixed (3m and 4m). The Mono Pitch Gazebos can be manufactured fully bespoke to suit your requirements.  Please call us to discuss your needs.

  • Does it need to be on a hard surface?

Yes we only fix to a hard surface.

  • Will compacted gravel be ok?

In the circumstance where there is compacted gravel we would recommend taking the gravel up in the locations of the legs and pouring a concrete pad 200mm deep x 400mm x 400mm for us to fix the gazebo legs to. We can supply a diagram including dimensions of where those concrete pads need to be.

  • Do the gazebos come with guttering?

Our wooden gazebos, dining pods and clear roof pergolas can be fitted with guttering, please enquire if you would like this option. Our cedar wood gazebo is designed so that the rain water runs evenly off the sides. Our Quadrat gazebo and mono pitch gazebos feature a clever integrated drainage system whereby the rain water runs into the legs and out of a hole at the bottom.

  • Do you manufacture the gazebos?

Yes, we have designed and manufacture many of the gazebos, pergolas and dining pods on offer in-house at Woodberry.

  • What is the gazebo roof made from – and why?

The gazebos, pergolas and dining pods have different roof materials

Wooden Gazebos and Dining Pods have a corrugated composite bitumen roof. This is weatherproof, noise dampening and long lasting.

Mono Pitch Gazebos and Clear Roof Pergolas have translucent polycarbonate roofs. This is weatherproof and lets in plenty of light but being translucent it does not show all the dirt like a clear roof would.

Metal Louvered Roof Gazebos have toughened aluminium roof slats. When closed these are fully waterproof, but the slats can be opened to allow light and shade.

  • Do you wire in the heaters?

No, we recommend you get a qualified electrician to wire in the heaters for you.

  • Can you fit heaters to it?

Yes, we recommend electric wall mounted heaters for underneath the gazebos. These can be fixed to the leg or roof struts. Please ensure you adhere to the safety instructions enclosed with the electric heaters to allow a minimum spacing away from other materials and certainly not near to anything that classes as flammable.

  • How do you fix it to the ground?

All the outdoor shelters come with ground fixings to secure them to the ground.

  • Can it be moved?

All our gazebos, pergolas and dining pods can be moved. They are surfaced fixed to the ground rather than having any footings below ground. For planning permission sake they class as ‘moveable outdoor structures’ which do not require planning permission.

However, we would recommend that once built the outdoor shelter is not moved too frequently as moving it will undermine its structural integrity.

We find our clients only really have 1 place to locate outdoor shelters at their venues and once it has been planned for that location the outdoor shelter does not require to be moved to another location on the property.

All the outdoor shelters come flat packed so in theory you could dismantle it and relocate if needed.

  • Do I need planning permission?

No – generally you do not need planning permission for the Woodberry Gazebos

Read our blog on planning permission requirements in detail

    https://www.woodberry.co.uk/planning-permission-for-moveable-outdoor-shelters/

  • What base for 2.7m parasol?

A 30kg parasol base will be best for a 2.7m parasol.

  • What size base do I need for a 2.5m parasol?

A 30kg base will be sufficient for a 2.5m parasol.

  • What is the heaviest parasol base?

The heaviest parasol base we offer is 50kg, which is suitable for a 3m parasol.

  • How heavy should a parasol base be?

It depends on the size of your parasol. For parasols up to 3m we recommend a 30kg; for a 3m parasol we suggest using either our 50kg base.

  • How heavy should a 2m parasol base be?

    We recommend using a 30kg base for a 2.1m, 2.5m or 2.7m parasol.

  • How heavy should a base be for a 3m parasol?

We recommend using a 50kg base for a 3m parasol.

  • It it better to have a light or dark parasol?

In terms of heat protection, the colour will make little difference to the shade offered.  Never underestimate the impact that coloured parasols can have outside a venue – they can offer serious curb appeal. In terms of staining, a lighter parasol will show stains sooner than a darker one.

  • What is the best colour for a sun parasol?

A bright parasol colour will really lift your frontage and make a good impression on potential customers.

  • How do I remove my parasol canopy?

Firstly, with the parasol in the closed position, turn it upside down onto a clear surface (carpet or cardboard). Next, remove the finial off the top of the parasol. Now take each of the parasol pockets off the end of the parasol. Once this is done this should mean the canopy falls on the floor around the parasol framework. Next put the new canopy onto the floor and reverse the process. Don’t forget to fix the finial back on again before you lift the parasol into position to ensure it has that finishing touch! TIP: when you turn the parasol upright be sure to open the parasol very slowly and carefully as I’m 99% sure the rope for pulling the parasol up will be tangled in some way!!

  • Do you send fabric samples?

Unfortunately we do not have any fabric swatches that we can send out, as our parasols and cushions arrive with us as finished products.

  • Can you order parasols in colours other than what’s on your website?

We can usually get hold of parasols in other colours – please contact us to discuss this.

  • Do all of the tables come with parasol holes?

No, but we can add them to all of our tables except gabion square tables, and Bexley – just ask.

  • What is the delivery charge for smaller items – parasols?

Smaller items that can be posted rather than delivered in a van or on a lorry include; parasols, weather covers, accessories such as fixings.

These are charged at a lower rate to the pallet delivery. However, note that if you are ordering multiple smaller items, pallet delivery may be the cheapest option for delivery.

  • What are these 3 metal bars for that have come with the parasol?

They all fit together to make one long pole, this can then be used to put the weather cover over the parasol when it’s collapsed.

  • What is the maximum diameter parasol for a free standing parasol?

We offer 4 diameters of parasol at Woodberry. 2.1m, 2.5m, 2.7m and 3m. If you require larger than this, consider a jumbrella which comes as 4x4m, 5x5m or 6x6m sizes.

  • What parasol base do you recommend if I want this parasol free standing?

For free standing parasols we would always recommend a heavier parasol base for safety and stability. This is because they don’t have the additional security of a table support.

Therefore, for a 2.7m parasol free standing we recommend a 40kg base. For a 3m parasol recommend a 50kg base.

Please always bear in mind safety and weather conditions if stronger winds are forecast.

  • What parasol do you recommend to go with this table?

The most popular size of parasol is 2.7m diameter. These work well to provide cover to picnic tables and square and rectangular tables. If you have a narrow space or smaller tables then 2.1m is best.

If you wish to cover multiple tables for shade then a jumbrella might be an option for you. The 4x4m jumbrella can cover 4 tables at once.

  • Can I use planters as a barrier or divider?

Yes, Woodberry’s trough planters are ideal to be used in this way.  The wooden trough planters with wheels give you added flexibility to be able to move the planters around to create different layouts or if you need to move the planters at night.

  • What can I use to help fill a large outdoor planter?

Rather than fill a large outdoor planter completely with soil and compost, other materials can be used to bulk out the space such as natural fillers (like rocks, pine cones, wood chips, sticks), or man-made fillers (polystyrene chippings, recycle plastics bottles or pots turned upside down).  Don’t forget though to allow enough depth of soil for your plants to flourish.

  • Which planters are the easiest to maintain?

Fibreglass and recycled plastic planters do not require retreatment like many timber planters do.  As regards planting, outdoor artificial plants typically require less maintenance than real plants.

  • Which planters are best for outdoors?

All Woodberry Planters are suitable for outdoors including the timber planters which are fully treated.

  • How do you keep a timber planter from rotting?

Make sure the planter box has a liner to minimise contact of moisture with the timber and have drainage holes in the bottom of the liner and planter to ensure the liner does not act like a bucket and retain too much water.

  • How much does it cost per hour to run an electric patio heater?

Your kWh rate x Power of your heater = Hourly cost.  E.g With a kWh rate of £0.50 per hour x heater power of 2kW = £1 cost per hour.

  • How much does it cost per hour to run a gas patio heater?

A 13kW heater on full blast will burn gas at a rate of very approx. 1kg per hour.  So to calculate the hourly running cost divide the cost of a cylinder refill by how many kilograms of gas are in the cylinder.  E.g. Refill cost £52 / 13kg cylinder = £4 per hour.

Gas will be burnt more slowly if you have the heater on half power or are using a less powerful heater.

  • Can you use a patio heater inside a gazebo?

For safety, we don’t recommend gas patio heaters are used inside a gazebo or under a canopy, but electric patio heaters are generally OK for this use, providing the manufacturers safety instructions are carefully followed.

  • What gas bottle does a gas patio heater require?

Either Propane or butane gas, sometimes also called Patio Gas or Leisure Gas.  Generally no larger than a 15kg cylinder will fit inside the heater base.  The gas cylinder will need to be compatible with the 27mm Clip-on regulator that comes with our Pyramid and Avora heaters.

  • What area does a patio heater heat?

You’ll find the answer to this question on each of our heater product pages.  Remember, how sheltered the area is will affect how effective the heater feels.

  • I want a commemorative or memorial bench, can you help?

Yes we can.  Although Woodberry only supply the bench itself, we have reliable partners who can supply commemorative plaques with your chosen message on, to remember a loved one or commemorate a special event.  Please speak to our team on 01926 889922 on how we can help.

  • Do you offer other benches such as backless ones, or benches round a tree?

Please speak to our team; whilst we don’t show these on our website, we can access a selection of other park bench designs that may suit your requirement.  Our office number is 01926 889922.

  • Should I fix my park bench down?

It depends on the location where you wish to put the bench.  If the location is in a public area, then we strongly recommend ground fixing the bench into paving or grass, this is a low cost addition to your bench and will keep it safe from potential theft.  However, if the location is a privately owned space such as an enclosed garden or terrace, then it is usually not necessary to fix down.  It may be obvious, but if you wish to move the bench regularly, do not fix it down, ground fixings are designed to be permanent!  Some benches such as our Greendine bench https://www.woodberry.co.uk/product/recycled-plastic-park-bench-greendine-range-2/ are a great option – they are heavy enough in themselves to deter most attempts to carry it off.

  • Why are Teak park benches so expensive?

Teak is without doubt the best hardwood in the world for outdoor furniture.  It lasts for years, is rich in natural oils to maintain itself without you needing to treat it regularly.  What’s more, it’s tight grain means it can be machined into the most beautiful furniture.  However, teak is slow growing and only grows in certain parts of the world.  It MUST be farmed responsibly.  Woodberry always make sure that we get our teak from well managed forests, see https://www.woodberry.co.uk/about-us/corporate-social-responsibility/.  Its like the rare jewel of the wood world, that’s what makes it so special.

  • How do I know how many people a bench can seat?

As a rule of thumb you should allow a minimum of 450mm to 500mm for a typical seat.  Divide the full length of the bench (in mm) by 450 and this will tell you how many the bench will seat.  For example: a 1500mm bench divided by 450 = 3.33, so that seats 3.  On the other hand a 1800mm bench divided by 450 = 4.  A 2000mm bench divided by 450 is 4.44 – this is a generous 4 seater, not a 5 seater.

  • What type of customers use bar furniture?

Younger generation clients are in particular drawn to high bar or poseur seating, as it often appears more casual.  You can stand or sit, whichever you prefer.  On the contrary, bar or poseur seating is not often favoured by older generation customers, and certainly not by disabled customers.  This is because the seat height is typically a foot higher off the ground.

  • How high is bar height furniture?

Typically, bar tables are 1000mm to 1100mm in height, whilst stool seating is 700mm to 800mm in height.  This is significantly higher than that of dining tables and chairs which usually consist of a 750mm high table and 450mm high seat.  This means that bar or poseur seating is not often favoured by older generation customers, and certainly not by disabled customers.  Make sure that you have a mix of seating types to cater for your customers.

  • Does Bar Furniture tip over?

Whilst some domestic grade bar furniture may be a bit topply, all commercial grade outdoor bar furniture should be made with the safety of customers in mind so that it does not topple over and put your business at risk.  At Woodberry we have specifically chosen bar furniture that is sturdy and/or heavy to mitigate any possible risks.  If you are still unsure, consider ground fixing your poseur furniture.  This can be done.  Or use a design such as our Gabion Poseur https://www.woodberry.co.uk/product/gabion-poseur-table/ who’s sheer weight means that it cannot be moved.

  • Is Bar Furniture good for small outdoor spaces?

Yes it is.  One of the major reasons why our hospitality clients use high bar furniture outdoors is that it is very space efficient meaning that you can fit more seating in a smaller space.  Narrow terraces or passageways often benefit from high poseur tables or with stools which tuck away underneath or stack.  It is widely accepted that some high footfall wet-led venues may have bar tables which are designed for standing customers.  This is common with products such as our Old Oak Barrel Poseur tables https://www.woodberry.co.uk/product/barrel-poseur-table/

  • What is the point of bar furniture on an outdoor pub garden or terrace?

There are 2 main reasons why our hospitality clients use bar furniture.  Firstly, a garden with a variety of seating creates a more inviting space, rather than having it all uniform.  It looks better.  Younger generation clients are in particular drawn to high bar or poseur seating, as it often appears more casual.  You can stand or sit, whichever you prefer.  The second major reason is that it is generally more space efficient meaning that you can fit more seating in a smaller space.  Narrow terraces or passageways often benefit from high poseur tables on their own that customer stand at, or with stools which tuck away underneath or stack.

  • How can I deter wasps from our litter bins which is becoming a problem in hot weather?

Wasps are attracted to the smell of sweet wrappers and food waste, we can’t offer a physical solution. Tip – a quirt of strong bleach inside every bin will help to mask the smell that attracts wasps.

  • How can we keep pests like squirrels and seagulls from getting into the Estate Litter Bins?

Woodberry can fit push-in flaps to the bins to keep out pests.

  • What does part-assembled mean?

Part-Assembled means we have put some parts of the furniture together eg. Seat units but the whole piece still needs to be assembled.

We supply the circular range of picnic tables and Bourton range of picnic tables part assembled.

These all come with instructions and take approx. 30 minutes per table to fix together.

For fully assembled furniture, talk to our team about installation at your venue on 01926 889922.

  • Can you deliver and assemble it for me?

Absolutely, we want to help our customers have furniture and shelters ready to serve without any business disruption. Please talk to our team about on-site installation charges.

  • Is it delivered flat pack or pre-assembled?

It depends which product it is. The majority of the wooden furniture products and shelters are delivered flat packed. Please check the product specific web page which details whether it is delivered flat pack, part assembled or fully assembled.

We do offer installation on site where our team will make up flat packed products on site and put in the correct locations for you with all packaging taken away. Talk to our team about installation on 01926 889922

  • I’m after a specific piece of furniture that you don’t stock – can you order it in for me?

We have access to a wide range of products, so if there’s something specific that you’re looking for, please get in touch.

  • Do you manufacture the gazebos?

Yes, we have designed and manufacture many of the gazebos, pergolas and dining pods on offer in-house at Woodberry.

  • Why is teak so expensive?

Teak wood is a slow growing wood which is excellent for making outdoor furniture as is has a tight wood grain and is less prone to splits, cracks and rot. All the teak furniture we source is FSC certified. There are less forests producing teak (at a slow growing rate) than fast growing european redwood pine.

  • Can you manufacture furniture to my specifications?

No we cannot offer bespoke work. Some of our shelters can be made bespoke lengths. We have a manufacturing facility so we would consider bespoke items for a minimum order quantity of 200 repeat items.

  • How can we keep pests like squirrels and seagulls from getting into the Estate Litter Bins?

Woodberry can fit push-in flaps to the bins to keep out pests.

  • Do you send fabric samples?

Unfortunately we do not have any fabric swatches that we can send out, as our parasols and cushions arrive with us as finished products.

  • How do I find the dimensions of a product?

The dimensions of each product can be found on the webpage for that item.

  • Will the recycled plastic picnic benches bow with heavy use?

One of the many benefits of buying a Woodberry recycled plastic picnic table is that we reinforce the recycled plastic planks with galvanised steel to avoid ‘plastic sag’ over time.

  • What’s the recycled plastic made from?

Each recycled plastic picnic bench, table and chair is made from a mixture of HDPE, LDE and PET plastics. Put simply, these are recycled plastic bottles, bubble wrap, pallet stretch wrap and haybale wrappings

  • Can you order parasols in colours other than what’s on your website?

We can usually get hold of parasols in other colours – please contact us to discuss this.

Our cedar wood gazebo is designed so that the rain water runs evenly off the sides. Our Quadrat gazebo and mono pitch gazebos feature a clever integrated drainage system whereby the rain water runs into the legs and out of a hole at the bottom.

  • Do all of the tables come with parasol holes?

No, but we can add them to all of our tables except gabion square tables, and Bexley – just ask.

  • Do you supply spare or replacement parts?

No, we can only supply spare fixings. If your product is under structural guarantee from us then please get in touch.

  • Is it easy for me to install?

It depends on where you want the outdoor shelter to be located. The outdoor shelters all come flat packed with instructions.

Complications where the ground is not flat or window and door openings have not been considered are difficulties some clients have encountered.

We recommend expert installation for ease though, our team can be done in a day (depending in the size of the installation) with all packaging removed and ready for you to serve customers.

  • Do you install outdoor shelters?

Yes, we offer expert installation services for an additional cost.

  • What are these 3 metal bars for that have come with the parasol?

They all fit together to make one long pole, this can then be used to put the weather cover over the parasol when it’s collapsed.

  • Do you make bespoke furniture?

We do have manufacturing facilities at our Leamington Spa workshop and produce some products ourselves. However, if your requirements are bespoke it would need to be a large order of more than 50 units to make it cost effective for all involved. Please talk to us if you have these requirements on 01926 889922
