Shooters Hill Golf Club had been previous customers of Woodberry, purchasing teak tables and chairs and picnic tables for their outdoor patio area.
The problem they had
The underlying challenge they now had was clubhouse capacity and weatherproofing their patio area without spoiling the view.
Shooters Hill Clubhouse host events alongside catering for golf club members in the bar. In order to host both sets of customers they needed extra weatherproof capacity.
The clubhouse patio area boasts a beautiful view across the valley which they didn’t want to obscure with gazebo or pergola, but they did need a large outdoor shelter solution.
The solution we recommended
We recommended jumbrellas to provide flexible shelter and shade without blocking the view.

The Shooters Hill Jumbrella Solution
Shooters Hill Golf Club had a good idea what they were looking for but there were specific considerations.
The outdoor space to cover was 5m x 16m, but the rear outline of the clubhouse was not a “straight line” so rendered the idea of a large awning useless.
After a site visit from Howard at Woodberry 2 options were determined: either a large fixed gazebo structure or multiple giant umbrellas.
In particular, the Club Committee were very considerate not to obscure the beautiful view over the valley with a structure, so a challenging aspect to the fixed structure was arriving at a design and height which had low visual impact from inside the clubhouse.
The committee chose the giant umbrella option because of its ability to collapse when not in use, and consequently impact less on the beautiful view over the valley.
Fitting the Jumbrellas
To be honest, the installation could have gone more smoothly.
The fitter was digging a hole and concreting at the peak of the summer heat wave in July 2022 (38 degree heat). The concrete was drying out very fast to sink the base unit into.
Concreting in the metal base is the key part of the installation of the Jumbrella but this can be done in advance of the Jumbrella being delivered.
The jumbrella unit then is surface bolted to the underground base unit. It does mean that the Jumbrella can be unbolted and moved should it need relocating.
