Castle Drogo updates its café furniture after 10 years

Woodberry has been providing furniture and knowledge to National Trust properties since 2009 when we were contacted by Castle Drogo, with a request for an outdoor furniture solution for their restaurant and cafe space.

Café furniture

As a space that generates revenue from visitors, Castle Drogo wanted to create a comfortable and practical seating solution suitable for visitors of all ages, to enjoy all year round.

Castle Drogo is one of the last castles to be built in England, so it was essential to choose a range that would harmonise with the design and feel of the property, a range that would age well and still look good, season after season.

Woodberry’s solution

Our popular budget-friendly Circular range was chosen as its design and features ticked all the boxes of importance at Castle Drogo.

The units have been built to last with their double thickness tops and chunky legs, ensuring each unit is well balanced, whatever surface it is settled on.

The Circular range, is extremely hard working and is built to last in the most extreme weather conditions.   A set of twenty units of this great British furniture was purchased in May 2009 and have taken pride of place at the restaurant and cafe space at Castle Drogo, for almost ten years.

10 years later

In 2019,  Castle Drogo decided to retire these units to the Orchard as their rustic look after ten years is much better suited to their picnic space.

They have since been set up for families to enjoy their summer snacks and drinks and will blend in really nicely with the surrounding trees and foliage.

The Circular range is the furniture that just keeps on giving

Castle Drogo has been so delighted with the longevity of the Circular range they have decided to fit out their restaurant space with sixteen shiny new sets.

This time they have also decided to mix the range up with some of our Bourton 6 Seaters. These compact units are handcrafted from northern European redwood and work really well as a corner filler.

Feedback from Castle Drogo

“At Castle Drogo we have been very happy with the professional team and service we have experienced having been a customer since 2009.  Our new Visitor Centre had a large outdoor space that needed weather resistant furniture for our visitor to use all year round,  the circular range fitted perfectly.   This year 2019 we purchased again.”  Christine Gray, Visitor & Commercial Operations Manager

Knowing that our furniture really does stand the test of time and extreme weather conditions really make all our hard work worth it.
